Overlays

Pages that are set to “Overlay” load above all other contents and can be linked-to from the Link menu. To use, right-click a page in the Pages menu and choose “Overlay”. See examples ↗

Use overlays for site menus, popup windows or information panels — generally, layering the contents of one page on top of another. For examples and templates that you can copy/paste into your own sites, click here ↗

To use an overlaid page in your site, right-click a page in the Pages menu and set it to Overlay. You can choose to have it simply appear, or you can set a transition animation for when the page is opened and/or closed.

Next, set up a link to it: select text, an icon, or an image in a different page on your site, open the Link menu ⌘K and select your overlaid page from the “Link to Page” menu. When a link to an overlaid page is clicked, the page is loaded on top of the currently visible page, without affecting it in any way.

Unlike when linking to regular pages, linking to an overlaid page does not show the page’s URL in the browser’s address bar.

Overlays can layered on top of each other. The most recently linked-to overlay will be at the top. There is no limit to the amount of overlaid pages that you can create.

When “Open on load” is turned On, the overlaid page is displayed when the site is first loaded. When this option is turned On on a page that is within a Set, the overlaid page is displayed when any other page in that Set is visited.

Overlaid pages can be closed by clicking outside or when navigating (when a link in the overlaid page is clicked). As well, there is a “Close Overlay” option in the Link menu (within the “Navigate” menu), which can be used to make a close button (i.e. “×”).
